Corner cab help

Post by Iain Hall »

I am trying to have the center back panel 3/4 sheet stock with the left and right 1/4 sheet stock I inset my center back 25mm and put a 45 degree bevel on both sides so that my right and left backs will overlap it. I have been unable to have only the center back be 3/4 any ideas.

We are going with a 45 CNC very soon and I am trying to get all of boxes exactly the way we do them so that when he CNC arrives we can cut the transition time down as much as possible.

Please bear with my newbie questions

Thanks

At this point in time the software will only allow one type of material for corner cabinet backs. :( If your going to use set cabinet sizing, and don't need it resizable then you can add backs and save as an assembly.

Another thing you could do. Go ahead and design your cabinets using the 3/4" material, when you take the cabinet to the machine filter out the left and right back. Cut all your 3/4" parts and when completed cut the left and right back with 1/4" material on the table. The machine is not going to know if you have 1/4 or 3/4, it is just going to make the outline cut regardless of what is loaded on the table. You might want to name the back material something special to remind you or the operator that a special operation is needed.

Another thing to do: Go ahead and make your corner cabinet with either all 3/4" or all 1/4" backs (which is the only option anyway from the cab editor)
Place that cabinet in a room and then select it and then go to change materials. From there, you can independently select either the left, center or right back and change the material of just that piece. Then take that cabinet back into the editor (with the changed back) and save it as a seed.

You'll need to fiddle with the insets, but you can make them show the correct sizes.

Think I got it figured for now.
Created a stretcher that is the same size as I would use for my center back panel because it is a stretcher it will resize with the cabinet I then lenghtened the back stretchers. I created a different material for each part so that they will show up accordingly on the cut sheet. It will work for now but a fix would be better.

Thanks

Iain,

Another solution is to simply change your construction methods to something that will work with the software. I have found that this is somethimes the best way to go instead of using work-arounds and waiting for the software to change.
