Nest Diagrams - Cut order?

Post by Doug Smith »

Good morning,

I would like to give you a brief introduction, as I am a new poster. I'm a cabinetmaker in Raleigh NC. I have a Shopbot, and thought it would behoove me to learn the eCabinets Systems software with the introduction of the new Thermwood - Shopbot link. Note: I have not purchased the link, as I am working on my learning curve presently.

In the above mentioned learning attempt, I developed a seed cabinet, (to my specifications), which I then brought into the nest diagrams to compare all hole locations to my original spec. statement. All hole locations seem to have worked correctly.

In the Nest diagram window, I double clicked on the sheet, and then double clicked on the part ( in this case, the right end), and then enlarged it by using the reset view button. ( Picture attached) This allowed me to read locations of bored holes as the hole numbers appeared on the yellow diagram, corresponding with the list dimensions. Upon further reflection, I noticed that the list started with W, then H, then numbers 1 and 2. The list continued with numbers 3 through 22, in no particular order. On a scrap piece of paper, I put down a pencil, and followed the hole numbers, simulating a path the router would take if cutting in numbered sequence.

So my question is this. Is the numbered sequence the order the router will take? (ie W then H then #1, #2 - which would cut the part out first, then drill the spaghetti maze of hole according to the numbers.)

Thank you for your consideration of my question.

Doug

eCabinets does not order the cuts in any particular fashion, I believe that optimization happens in the ShopBot Link or Control Nesting (for Thermwood routers).

Thank you Rick for your answer. I know now, not to try to alleviate this in eCabinets Systems software, and will wait till I have a link and then check on the cut order/optimization at that time.

Hi Doug,
Control nesting always does all machining other than flip ops before it cuts the part loose. In fact it always does all drill operations first, then dados' pockets ,etc.
