This is for anybody with a humidity problem and may have an answer. I fired up our router this morning and went to check all my tool holders. One of my tool holders was stuck in the head of the machine. After a little tap it came out. So I cleaned all the rust off the tool holders. This happens about once a week. The question is there anything out there to prevent this from happening? Maybe a sometime kind of a protective coat? Thanks darren
If you go to the upper right hand side of this forum, you can type in "toolholder" in the Advance Search field and about 9 topics will come up. There may be some info. in one of these topics that may be helpful to you as well.
We have the same problem, almost on a daily basis now that the humidity of summer is here.Is there some way to prevent the rust on the toolholder,I searched but could not find a clear solution.
i've been checking out a product called top cote. a table tool surface sealant. it has no petroleum, or silicone. has anybody used a product at all and if so does it work and is it safe to use on the toolholder? thanks for all the inputs, darren
Top Cote works great on tool tables like saws, jointers, and shapers. Doesn't leave a nasty residue and reduces friction. Never thought about using it on the tool holder. I normally put a few drops of WD-40 on a rag and wipe the tool holder with that. Seems to work just fine.
try some Lamalube. It is used to lube Plastic laminate when routing the edges. I have found that it works great on table top surfaces and is not as expensive as top coat. It will make your wood slide like owl grease if used on the joiner with no ill effects on the wood it self. I found that WD40 will cause nightmares with wood and the finish room. ( FISHEYE)
For Cleaning I use a product called Prep-Sol by DuPont or a generic called pre clean which is a wax and grease remover available from the automotive paint supply companies . It does a great job of removing rust.
After using a product like this and scotch brite for 2 years I am now going to buy a set of spindle cleaning cones . It looks like they make them for the spindle and the ER-32 collets about a $100.00 each.
