Cnn edge finders and indicators be used to locate workpieces on a thermwood model? Currently I program vertical turning centers and I was wondering if the same techniques we use in machine shop can used for locating workpieces on a Thermwood...

Error in region 2 means that you are not using one tool to make the cut...you need to specify a custom tool in profile modeler....right now it is trying to make the miters using a variety of tools....

If you are using the correct profile there would only be one region in Profile Modeler....

WE have made several Desks and columns mitre folding with ecabs, our method:

1. Acurately measure the tooling
2.Create tool in shape manager(center on 0,0,0)
3. Load tool specs into tool manager at CN
4. In parts editor offset tool (comp out) amount you are cutting into spoil board(we use 1/32)
5 ...

Now that my secret is out......

what is the faster or better way?

This is how I would do it....

1. Trace letters to DXF
2. Draw Arc
3. USe draw Point/divide command in ACAD
4 Apply to Arc
5. Osnap settings to node/intersection
6. Drop letters on points
7. Erase points
8. Apply layers/or load into ecabs parts editor/or drop onto panel in MV
9. Wrtie ...

HOW DO YOU GET THE CURVED PATH?

We did some thank you signs with a cool font not too longa ago....

We traced the letters in auto-cad and used chain-compin and out

came out great...

As far as MV and the Thermwood we have noticed that the DXF generation in MV corresponds exactly(almost) to the G-Code generation.

As a result we see climb cuts in dadoes on one side of the cabinet and conventional cuts on the other side...we discovered this ...

Production sharing is a good method, I used it before I worked in a shop that has a CNC...now I work in a shop with a Thermwood. So I use them for production sharing..

Edge banders are great tools however, expensive and really require volume for a good ROI

ex-factory allways has good deals ...

Thanks again for all your help.

I do have a question though about the CNC file that is not cutting right...I believe MV generates it's own G-code...although we did have issues with MV DXF's...our primary concern was the G-code gnerated by MV.

Do you know anyother Thermwood owners that have ...

I was trying to use splines in the shape manager and then import the geometry to the parts editor....

A couple of things are going on:

Splines won't extend or trim
After I save the geometry only a portion of it shows up in the parts editor

We tried everything out..

ended up getting it to work in the parts editor by saving it in version 12 of ACAD...

The parts were delivered ontime and everything went well...

Now Daniel mentioned something about hidden layers...How do I view those layers so I can get rid of them ...

CN is set to imperial....
