Creating new appliances

Is there a way to create a usable appliance from a jpeg downloaded from the net? I'm trying to creat a GE stainless fridge with the freezer on the bottom.

Steven,
You can create a Display Cube the size if the fridge and crop and use the jpeg image for the cube. Be sure to check stretch instead of tile when you use the image.

Steven,
Here is a 3D model of a bottom freezer fridge if you would like to use it. It isn't great but it might get you by. You just place these files in your Imports folder and you will be able to open them as Display objects. You can change the textures on the parts by opening this object in the Display Parts Editor and right clicking on each part and choosing a new texture. This is supposed to be a jennair 36 the size is 36Wx27Dx68T you can scale this part in the Cabinet/Assembly editor

Thanks, I'll use your double door fridge. It looks a lot better than a display cube with a jpeg on it.

Thanks for this fridge. I have a customer who is scrutinizing every detail and actually having the correct model is far better than trying to explain why the stock fridge from the appliance list doesn't look right .

If it's a GE Monogram you could just download the CAD file, convert it to STL, import it to eCabs in the Display Part Editor and then save it with the stainless steel texture as an HSF file which you can now use as a display object.

Try here http://www.monogram.com/selectionguide/

Then click on the type. product you want.
Then click on the Model Number
Then on that page click on Product Documentation
Scroll down that page till you see the link for the CAD Download

The result will be something like the attachment.

1. I don't have AutoCad. How do I convert?

Accutrans can be used to convert files.

Accutrans does not read the DWG file format, although it does export to STL.

What else is available that is free, or cheap? Need to go DWG --> STL .

TurboCad can read and save DWG and DXF files. The Learning Edition is version 4, ImsiSoft is currently selling version 11 and I think they hope you'll get hooked and buy the latest verion. I have had problems opening some Dxf and Dwg files, maybe it is because of the version of AutoCad that was used to save them

IMSI has stopped offering a freeware copy of TurboCAD LE at their own website due to installation problems with Windows XP.

I have been looking on eBay for something newer than version 10, and it appears there are many to be had for a very reasonable price. I wonder if anyone has had good experience buying TurboCAD on eBay?

I have been working on quite a few files for compilation into a possible CD format. Kind of a copy paste and you're ready to use the library.
