dadoing faceframes to case

I cannot figure out how to set up dadoing my faceframes to cabinet. There doesn't seem to be an option for that. In the past I have just made sides, top and deck 1/4\" wider. Is there a way to set this up?

What I know is the Thermwood guys are working very hard to implement this feature. Beyond that I can't talk about it. Besides I'm not going to be the one to try and steal Ken's thunder. Just trying to give Don something to look forward to.

I was just joking, obviously. I appreciate all the hard work the guys at Thermwood are doing, I cant imagine the complexity of it all, I have my hands full just trying to keep my little business going. I can only imagine what this software will be in a couple more years.

I've never used this method to attach a faceframe. Do you guys run the dado on the Style all the way through. I use pocket holes and screws. How does the dado effect the area where there are screws from the rails?

Hey Brian,
I DONT do face frame, but when I do, or when I use to a lot, I had a pretty good system. To try to explain, I would cut all my face frame material to size, then I would cut a 1/4\" w.x 3/8\" d. dado in the back, 1/2\" in from edge, or really the thickness off my box material. We use 1/2\" plywood. Then you would cut a 1/4\" wide tongue on your box. This would be inserted in the groove of the face frame. depending on how you orientated the panel when you inserted it, you would end up with a 1/4\" scribe for cabinet to cabinet or if you rotated the panel 180 d. you had a flush panel for end of run. Same setup for both, you only had to watch the finish on the exposed end run cabinet. Same way for the deck, you could make it flush or 1/4 lip depending on how you inserted panel. To answer your ?, we did not use pocket holes and dado's in combination, we just glued the panel in dado and the either clamped for finish ends or angle nailed a few brads through the side panel into face frame for butt cabinets.

I think I understand how you did it. Do you build your Faceframes with pocket holes and screws? I'm wondering about the faceframe screws going into the Style dado, before the frame even goes onto the box.

Yes we do pocket hole our faceframes. We use a 1-5/8 wide rail and style for the most part and even at that minimum width we dont have trouble with the pocket hole screw going through the dado. We only use one screw per joint as by the time you glue it and then dado and glue the box to the frame, it is a very strong joint. But, remember, you are talking to a guy who DOES not build face frame cabinets!!!

I use 1 1/4\" faceframe screws. I haven't checked but I guess with 1/2\" to bite into on the Style, the screw may be O.K.. Thanks for the help Mike.
