geometry creation after profile cuts?

k, trying to make a shaker style mdf door... recessed panel, but with a profile around the inside of the frame. i created my profile tool, applied it to a rectangle, but now when i try to go and create the recessed panel with a pocket, i get an error message saying that i cannot create geometry on a part with a profile cut... am i doing something wrong, or do i have to create that recessed panel first?

I ran into the same message doing a similar operation....trying to lay a dadoe on a panel right next to a profiled edge...

The profile is always the last thing you do.
