Copying of constraints

Post by Paul Ellis »

Can constraints for a part be copied to other similar parts? I have made cuts on a shelf and constrained them, now I want the same constraints on all the other shelves.

Paul,
You cannot save the contraints as a file. The constraints are saved to the pieces that they are applied to. So, if you copy a cabinet that has constraints applied to it, the constraints will be copied as well.

Thank you Todd. I was afraid that would be the answer. Could this be put on the wish list? (anyone else interested in this feature?) Perhaps it could be saved together with the 'Load geometry'? And then have choice to change individual constraints once that part is created? Just a thought...use it dont use it :)

Paul,
You never know, but I will forward it onto our programmers. Thanks for your input!

Note: Within the Ecabs software, we have a \"feedback\" area. The is located under the \"communications\" pull down menu along the top of the page. This is the best place to input suggestions, problems, and report bugs that you may have. FYI.

this something i would love to see as well. the ability to create and constrain geometry on one part and have the option to apply it to selected \"like\" parts. Also, the ability to create and constrain geometry on a gable and have the option to mirror it to the opposite gable.

Mark,
You can save part editor data to a .DXF file, then bring that DXF file into another part and mirror. Then make your part editor cuts on the new part. FYI

True, you can do this, but it still doesn't copy over the constraints. It would be nice to be able to link similar features across several parts... that way you can constrain one cabinet part, then link the features to matching features on other cabinet parts, and have the entire cabinet constrained... instead of individually constraining each feature on each part.
