Thanks, Dan!

I had totally forgotten about Associations, within the Cabinet/Assembly Editor, and therefore have made some things a little more difficult for myself with some of the jobs I have worked on. I WILL remember this, though.

We ALL fumbled around Al (and still do quite a bit  ).

That is part of what makes eCabinets so powerful--you imbellish cabinets as you see fit and make new seed cabinets from them.

OK guys what sort of \"Black Magic\" did you weave???
I tried to run that same file on build 4, wouldn't run, but I came back to this post and downloaded it back and it runs fine, What gives??? Would it have anything to do with downloading it from the site versus off of a disk? :?

Earlier I asked a couple of questions that will help us troubleshoot your problem but you haven't answered them yet.

1. How did you copy the files from the old computer to the new one?
2. Are you running Windows XP or Vista?

George,

If you have an older computer chances are you annot run that file from a disk or jump drive. The USB 1.X is not fast enough for the computer to gather the information. My guess is that it times out. (I'm no expert)

But with newer computers this should not be a problem. If the file doesn't open from the jump drive or CD drive try saving it to you hard drive and openning it from their. That should work fine.

As I recall, you DID use a CD to try to install Build 4 - is that correct? And this did not work? I think that the files on CD will try to extract to the CD drive, and that will fail, as the system cannot write to the CD itself.

Since you now have a whopping 500 MB on the new hard disk drive (HDD), the recommended procedure is to always save to the large HDD into a sub-directory such as c:\\downloads\\eCabinetSystems\\<filename> . THEN you can save to a CD to archive it, in case you need to do a re-install by transferring back from CD to the HDD.

It does make a difference on how you saved the file - CD or hard disk drive.

I downloaded the file from build 2 onto a CD, from there I ran the CD and put that file in the eCabnets folder. I didn't put it inthe download file, is that where I should have put it?
I didn't install build 4 from CD, I downloaded directly from site to desktop then ran it. (ie installed it) I did the same with build 3. Should I be uninstalling the program each time a new build comes out? or, does it just over write the previous version?

Question 1: I loaded it from a CD I had saved it on. (The kitchen file)
Question 2: Running Vista. (So far the only problem I'm seeing is with this Windows On Care Live, it doesn't update very fast, took over an hour last night. I downloaded 26MB build 4 in less time :x )

George

Each build updates the previously installed files and you don't need to uninstall first.

As for the other information, see my comments on page 2 of this thread.

Files saved to CD will be read-only and you have to change the permissions after you copy it to your hard drive.

With Vista, the program files directory is not in the expected location for eCabinets UNLESS you run the eCabinets setup program as administrator OR you turn off User Account Control.

Both of the issues will cause problems for you if not corrected. The job file you downloaded from the forum is not read-only (file permissions are removed when files are uploaded to the forum) so you can rewrite that file without errors.

With Vista, cabinet and assembly files will be located in C:\\Users\\<user>\\Program Files and NOT in C:\\Program Files as expected by eCabinets. To correct this you will have to uninstall and reinstall using \"Run as Administrator\" as stated before. Do NOT install using the autoplay function as this will not run as administrator. Cancel the installation when it starts and explore the CD to find the setup program. Right-click it and choose \"Run as Administrator.\"

Note: I added the red color for emphasis.

George,

Are you saying that it took over one hour for the update to run and install Build 4? If this is the case, there may be something else going on in the Vista system to make the update to Build 4 so slow.

I believe it takes less than one minute to do the entire update to Build 4 on a WinXP PRO machine... I cannot remember, as I did it a long time ago, the day after it became available last week.

NAW it took that long to download it, not install it. The problem is called Dialup
It installed it in mere seconds.
Dan
Ok when I reinstall the eCabinet program do I do the same thing with the job files too? I installed it directly from the CD on both in the past. This Administrator thing is a joke. Unless you have your computer locked down with password permission, which I don't, anbody can log on as administrator. if I lock it with a password, I'll lose track of what it is and then I'll really have a pain.

Speaking of pain. Guess who was STUPID enough to stand on a drywall pail to pull a nail out.  I'm typing with one hand, a bit awkward to say the least. Landed smack dab on my left elbow, nothing broke, but lots of swelling and nerve damage. I think it would have been easier to have broke it. Now I have to see an orthopedic Dr. about possible surgery to fix it. I'm right handed so it won't keep me totally out of commission

OUCH!!!

See, that's why they put all those \"don't stand here\" labels on ladders and not on drywall pails

Glad nothing is broken although you will probably be hurting for a while.

As for job, cabinet and assembly files (everything you copy from the old PC to a CD), you have to change the permissions so they are not read-only. All that gets done with \"Run as Administrator\" in the eCabinets installation.

Get well quickly!!!

Get well soon, George. Sorry to hear about the injury! Does this mean you get to spend a LOT more time with eCabs? Keep us updated on what the Doc finds, take another aspirin, and call him the morning.

And...

Don't stand on drywall buckets... Pay some one else to pull the nails.

Get well soon.

With all this spare time on my hands, er hand  , I finally got my eCab running right. I thank all of you who hung in there with me. Who knows, since I've got time to play, I could find more problems for you to solve
I really like the speed this new computer has, still can;'t work on a full 22\" screen. It'll be great for final rendering. I'll be able to see any little errors before my clients do  . OOOPS, forgot no beer for me, taking Vocodin. Mix beer with that and I might get stupid enough to try to fly off the top of one of those \"Don't stand (or fall from) here\" ladder signs. Less pain today, maybe when the swelling goes down it will be ok by itself. The wife says \"That's the pills talking!!\"
Anyhow Thanks for the well wishes and the help.
