Making appliances from .dwg files

GE makes .dwg files available as downloads from its appliances sites.

How would one go about making usable files from these, that can be brought into a room when detailing a kitchen?

Is this addressed anywhere in eCabs documentation?

I'm having little fun trying to model this little kitchen-in-a-pocket. Much much easier in Sketchup, except I can't cut wood or buy components from a Sketchup file.

Any hints on a way to model the stile and rail peninsula wainscot face panel?

Maybe I'm missing it but seems you could use a face frame cabinet turn off everthing except the face frame and make it how you wanted.

You need a program to convert the DWG or DXF files to STL files (or better yet HSF files). A lot of CAD programs will do this for you such as Turbocad and I would imagine Autocad, maybe even Sketchup. There is also a program that a number of people here use called Accutrans that will convert to STL files.

Once you have an STL file you can import the file into eCabinet Systems using the Part Editor. There you can give it whatever color and texture you like and save it as an HSF file.

There are also some programs available that will take a layered DWG file and allow you to separately color parts of an item, such as making knobs and grills different colors.

Alan, That's exactly what I did on my last post. A face frame cab with no sides, top or deck, 1/4\" face frame material, 3/4 back and the cab depth set to 1\".

What version of Turbo Cad will do this conversion. I have V 8. I also have Accutrans, which is what I use.

I have found the .dwg drawings from the GE site to have only one layer which makes them pretty useless. If anyone knows of a way to separate the drawings into layers I would like to know how this is done.
I think they have to be exported as multiple layers but I don't know that for sure.

Kerry I think you are correct. I use Accutrans and cannot get them layered. I haven't spent the time to find out how yet but I am working on it now.
