cn locking up
i am having a problem with CN locking up and not responding when i load multiple jobs. i have 3 batch jobs that i was trying to load and it locks up when i try to nesta all 3 together... and none are very large batches, one is only a single cabinet. any 2 of the jobs will nest together just fine, but as soon as the third one is added, the nesting process just locks up in a blank screen and the program becomes unresponsive. this is the same thing that was happening to me a few weeks ago when i was trying to load up a whole bunch of dovetail drawer batch jobs all at once.
sinec these 3 jobs are not large at all, it can't be simply too many parts for cn to handle. i have loaded single jobs with 3 times as many parts before with no problems.
any ideas?

Mark,
You say it will nest fine with 2 of the three files but as soon as you add the third it locks up? Have you tried to nest the third file by itself to see if it causes the same issue? You may have one file that's corrupt causing the software to freeze. Try nesting all the files seperately one by one to see if it freezes. If you are able to load them all seperately and have no issues, then email us the files at program@thermwood.com so we can take a look at what's happening.

There's no issue with dovetail drawer boxes. I think its all about the calcualtion the program have to perform to all of the parts. We cut dovetails all the time now and I know that it takes a long time to nest and write the CNC code. It's all normal I think and if you have a little more patience it will all nest properly. It seems like the program becomes irresponsive but it's actually working. So my advice is take a cup of coffee and enjoy it while the program is doing its job.

ah, but I have left the program frozen in a blank screen for more than half an hour without it ever getting out of the \"program not responding\" stage. These are not large files and should not require that much calculating. As I mentioned, I have loaded jobs more than 3 times larger than what I am trying to load here, and never run into any problems with them.

thanks for looking into this problem. I never had the patience or the time to wait 25 minutes for it to come out of the \"not responding\" lock.
One thing I don't understand though is why these 3 files would take 25 minutes to nest, when I have loaded other larger files and it has only taken about 30 seconds to nest. I mean, these are not very large files. I know my boss will give me \"the look\" if I go tell him I have to wait half an hour for the machine to figure out the cuts every once in a while. Have I somehow, unknowingly, added something to the jobs that makes CN freak out?

I'm having the same issue...As it is impossible to add sheet stocks in when i add 3 jobs in....(averaging about 60-70 cases plus parts) so ya i Load 1 job...add in my sheets...Add in the others then push nest and don't touch it till its done...find that if you touch it while its starting to do its work it sometimes crashes completely....
Hi Everyone,
In regards to this topic, I just wanted to inform you that our software engineering dept. is currently working on a version of Control Nesting which will give better progress information, rather than looking as if it is locked up. It may be a few months out, but we will certainly do our best to implement this option.
Bottomline, some larger files or files containing dovetail construction, will take a bit more time.
