I need a countertop that streches over some cabinets. I can't get the countertop editor to do it, so I made a display cube of the countertop size and took it to the part editor. I applied a contour cutout, and took it back. Now my texture is stretched in a strange way on one side of the display cube (of course the top of my countertop). I put an unmodified display cube with the same texture next to it to show the original. See picture attached. I like to figure 2 things;
- How do I get the true presentation of my fill back?
- How can I choose a new texture for my cube? The only way seems to be by making an additional cube with the new texture, then copying that texture to my object I want to change, and then deleting the object I copied from. there's got to be a more straight forward way,... I think.

Stefan,
If you want to apply CT to a group of cabinets you need to select all of the cabinets in that run. Then go into the CT editor and pic all of your points. I would like to see what your layout looks like. Could you please post the file so I could try it.

To match texture:
First select the piece you want to change, by single clicking.
Next, right click > "Match Texture"
Then, single click the DC or part that has the desired texture.
Note: You may want to make sure which type of orientation you have set for your display cube: Stretched or Tiled? It looks like the display cube you have posted here has a stretched material.
What I'm building here is basically a desk, the top you see in the back streches over a cabinet on one side, and a metal frame will support the top to hang "free" for the rest of it. I'm doing this for presentation purpose only, after all there is only 1 very basic standard cabinet in the layout.
I tried to create it putting in more cabinets to be able to create the top and delete them after. This worked the first time, but for any modification I really needed to go back and start from scratch. I figured the contour cutout was the way to go.
I left the fill on automatic. I'll try tonight and see what happens if I specify "tiled" specifically.
I'm at work now and don't have the file with me. If everything else fails, I'll post the file later tonight, not much to it though.
If I create an other display cube and copy the texture, will it copy the property of "Tiled" also?
Stefan, I have run into this before. There are several ways to handle this, you could make a 3/4 x 3/4 cabinet and place it in the back corner to build the counter off of or the easiest way for me, build a angled front corner cabinet and delete all the parts except the sides and back. Place it in the room. The cabinets on either side of the corner, place a .75 scribe to the outside style and then slide the cabinet over the end grain of the corner cabinet to flush it out.

Here is the other way with a cabinet the has all the parts deleted except one side and change the size of the cabinet to a 3/4 x 3/4 cabinet, and make it 3/4 tall. You can use these cabinets to place in the room to build counter tops. I left one of the cabinets(3/4x3/4) showing so you could see it and the others I raised up into the counter top so they would not show.

Thanks for the advice. That is a good option, only that I need the 45% to start about 8" inside of the outer cabinets. Either way I think I can make that happen using cabinets that are deleted after, or raised into the countertop as you did.
It still leaves me with the weird situation that my display object got a stretched fill after I did a contour cutout. No matter what I try, I can't get it to show tiled. I tried it a second time now and the same thing happens. I start with a display cube, filled "tiled" "auto" and by the time I do my cutout, it's stretched. I must be doing something wrong. Does anyone know if the "tiled" or "stretched" option are copied also when I copy the texture from another object?
Why are you using the display cube?? Maybe I am not understanding something. I can build that desk as I described and then take what ever cabinet I want to use and place it freestyle under the top. You shouldn't have to delete any cabinets. This cabinet is tucked under the top 8" as you described.
I think it's still weird what happened to my texture after the contour cutout. I've got a feelling that's going to come back and hunt me on a next project
But for the desk-top, I think I see the light! No more display cubes to build countertops. I love this forum! Thanks Damon
