V-Grooving....

So question is how do I make V-grooves in E-Cabs on say a sheet of 5/8" wood ? or 1/4" i have a v-groove cutter programmed in The router...the easy part...but how do i make a v-groove bit in ecabs to be able to make the lines???

Hey Marco,
You could do this in the profile modeler, or you could do what I have done and use the part editor, a display panel and lie to the machine about what tooling it has!!!

This is something that requires quite a few steps, and would be easier to explain over the phone. I have put a few steps on here, but this gets you about half way through. Give me a call and we can discuss the rest. 800.221.3865

First, within ecabs, you will need to create a tool within the shape manager.
Next, Go into the cabinet editor and load up a display panel.
Then, take DP into the Part editor.
Next, Go into the contour mode and create the lines you would like to use as toolpaths. Note: These will all be centerline toolpaths
Leave the contour mode.
Next, Click the "Profile Edge" button.
Then, select "single" at the bottom of the screen. This is the type of tool path. Since this is a single line, select single.
Now your line should be highlighted with a green/red line.
After that, select the "next" button at the bootm of the screen.
Now you will be propted to select the tool that you created earlier.
Select the tool by double clicking. You tool will appear in the window below.
Set your plunge depth and select apply.
Next, click "OK"
You should now see your tool path cutout.
Click return, and save your changes.
Next, Click the cnc button in the lower left hand corner to create the .TWD file.

At this point you will need to load the part up into the profile modeler, set up your regions, and the tools for those regions. Verify the toolpaths, and write the cnc file. Then run.

It is very simple to make a v-groove bit for the Part Editor. Just create an inverted triangle in the Shape Manager and save it as a tool (.tol) file.

To use it, place lines on the part to be grooved and profile (single path) using the tool you just created.

Dan, do you rotate the triangle to the left or right?

Neither...

Notice the bit is created at the location needed so plunge, offset, etc are left at 0.

K I ran away from this because of other things but now how do i find the inverted triangle or do i make a inverted triangle and do i specify a Tool width????

You can make any tool you need in the Shape Manager. I never specify a diameter for tools that I create.
