Unwanted drawerslide holes! Justin???

The file attached here is one depicting a frameless bath sink vanity. A false drawerfront atop two drawers, and one atop the paired doors, makes drawerslide holes inside for slides, where none are needed, or wanted.

I first placed these "drawers" leaving the "has drawerbox" selection unchecked, and this happened. I've placed a lot of false drawerfronts in cabinets and this is the first occurrence of unwanted drawerslide holes appearing.

I saw the holes, then went into the door/drawer editor, selected each false drawerfront, re-checked to see that the "has drawerbox" box was unchecked, then said "OK". Regenerations put the hardware holes there again.

I then went into the door/drawer editor, selected both false fronts, deleted them, and put them back in, without checking the "has drawerbox" selection. Same results.

What is going on here?

When using drawer boxes with drawer fronts, slides are associated to the front. (this is a hangover from the days before eCabinets showed drawer boxes. You will have to remove the default slide in Define Items and place the false front, then add the default slide back and place the other three drawers to get the correct holes. Once you have done this to your seed it will work correctly. It would be better if the slides were associated to the box as they are in the drawer box editor.

I can see why all the false fronts I have done in cabs in my seed library did not have this issue. All those have all been sinkbases without drawerboxes.

This occurs when one has a hybrid situation such as this bath vanity.

Would it be a good thing to be able to associate drawer slides to a drawer box in the drawer box editor? Then you could select a maple dovetail drawer box with under mount slides and the appropriate slide would be added or you could choose a Baltic birch drawer with epoxy slides and have the appropriate slide. You could then use the global change for drawer boxes or drawer boxes with fronts to change boxes and the appropriate hardware would also be there. You would need a larger library of drawer boxes but I think that would be OK.

The best solution would be able to change hinges and mounts, and drawer slides and mounts globally as we do doors and drawers.

When you selected your hardware, you associated it to the drawer fronts and not the drawer boxes. So any time you add that drawer front it is going to have to hardware holes associated to the drawer. Now if you only associate it to the dbx then it will only add the slide when the dbx is added.

I like your first idea better personally. It makes sense to have several dbx types that have the slides associated with them. Therefore if I want to add a file sized drawerbox, it already has the heavy duty hinges assigned to it. But if I want to put in a 3 inch pencil drawer with light hinges, I dont have to go through 5 steps to change the hinge, I already have those hinges associated with my pencil Drawer DBX. Nice conservation of work.
