Miter joints

I'm trying to create some plain boxes that will be finished all the way around, and would like to miter the corners together. How do i go about it because the only options it gives me on cabinets is butt, dado, etc, but no miter option.If it requires going to the part editor, I need real easy instructions, because I've had no luck in figuring out that part of the software. You want to miter your face frames to the cabinet sides? If 'yes', then you'll need the Part Editor. I can certainly post a method for you if you wish.

Yes, It would be mitering everything, sides, top, bottom, and faceframe joints.

I'm attaching a cabinet with everything mitered, along with the tool I use in Part Editor. For now, I hope you're good at reverse engineering.

I don't have time to fully explain right now, but here's a few tips:
All of your cabinet joints should be set to 'Butt'
You'll need to make sure that all of your cabinet parts and face frame parts overlap before you start mitering. (Check my inset settings on all parts.)
You'll have to 'flip' most pieces before running the tool on them.
The tool needs no offsets or depth adjustments.
The rails and stiles need the tool file for the miter to join the cabinet carcass, but need the 'Chamfer' tool from the 'Part Editor' itself to miter to each other.

Hopefully I'll have time over the weekend to show you step by step.

Mike, I don't have a program to open the attachments. How do I go about getting them?

You will need to save the .tol file to C:\Program Files\Thermwood\eCabinet Systems\My Profile Tools
And you will need to save the .hsf file to C:\Program Files\Thermwood\eCabinet Systems\Cabinets
You might want to open eCabinet Systems Made easy for some instruction on what to do from here. In eCabinets click help then click eCabinet Systems Made Easy. Click the Search tab then type in Profile tools. It will then come up with a few different area's which could be of help to you.
To view the .hsf file that Mike posted for you, you will now find it in eCabinet Systems which you will now be able to open.
You wont be able to do anything with the .tol file till you read the instruction in eCabinet Systems Made Easy.

Tried doing that, still won't let me open them.It tells me its an invalid file type.

Are you trying to double-click the files to open them? If so that won't work...you have to open the HSF file as a cabinet (in eCabinets) and the TOL can only be opened in Profile Edge mode of the Part Editor.

That's what I tried, still no luck. I was able to figure out how to miter my sides together, now I could use some advice on the faceframe joint. I'm trying to miter 2" stile and rail material together. Any help out there? Thanks, Lee

Lee,

Go to Construction Settings.
Click on the Face Frames tab.
Set your Top Rail insets to -2 (both left and right)
Set your Bottom Rail insets to -2 (both left and right)
(Note: This is assuming standard width stiles and rails of 2" - if you are using a different width, adjust your insets accordingly)
Click 'OK'

Select the Top Rail by single clicking on it.
Enter the Part Editor.
Choose the Chamfer tool from the toolbar. (6th tool from the left)
At the bottom of the screen, select 1-Distance
Enter 2" in the resulting dialog box (to the right)
Hit Enter
Select the end labeled Right with the selection box, then the unlabeled bottom edge.
Select the unlabeled left end, then the unlabeled bottom edge.
Click Return
Click Yes

Rinse and repeat for the bottom rail, left stile, and right stile.

Now those are the kind of instuctions I need. Simple and step by step. Thanks Mike, it worked like a charm. I still can't figure out why I can't get your hsf file to open It keeps telling me invalid file. Thanks again, Lee.
