Autocad DXF files?

Was wondering if anyone out there machines up parts using autocad dxf files? Is this worthwhile and what benefits does it have for you?

We have machined a great deal from DXFs and found it a very quick and effective way of machining up complex parts. Also very useful if your client happens to have what they want cut in DXF format. We have had some trouble with numbers and letters, but I believe this is related to cutter comp and the direction of cut.

With creating the auto cad dxf files it seems many Cad programs say they can produce these files. Is this the case with the controller that what produces the file is not critical only the way the layers are done?
If Auto cad is not critical are there easier cad programs to use and learn than Auto cad?
If you need to use Auto cad only is there a recommended version that works better than other versions?

Neville i use TurboCad very successfully it is easier and is also cheaper. TM used ACad because it is the industry standard I guess. if you need some help to get going drop me a line.
