Putting Fluted Columns on a Cabinet

Hello All,

Another newbie question.
Lets say I want to put fluted pilasters on a built-in.
Do I make a face frame or a cab and add it on?
I know you guys have posted files on the forum for what I am trying to achieve, can I import them into my software and load them into my designs?
What exactly is a hsf and esj file?

Did you want to put full or half fluted pilasters
Could you give use more information on what you are doing with them

I just did some 3 1/4" fluted moulding based on some stuff that is available locally. I created a profile and applied it to a 3 1/4" stile. It order to make something that is re-sizable I created a faceframe cabinet and then deleted everything except the one stile. I can then attach this moulding to whatever cabinet I want and easily resize it.

If this is something that would work for you I can upload it.

Joe, I understand making a cab for the fluted column so you can resize.
Imagine I am trying to join to bookcases together, they have 2" wide stiles.
Butted up together they are 4", now how do I add the fluted pilaster on top of those butting stiles?

Well, you can either add the moulding in the Cabinet/Assembly Editor or in the Custom Layout Editor. Doing it in the C/A Editor gives you a bit easier placement control, but this generates an assembly, which has some drawbacks. Assemblies are not re-sizable in the Custom Layout Editor, and it's also a pain in the butski to change doors for an assembly.

If you add it in the cab editor just remember to associate it to the cab or it will be lost when you open it back up.

Actually, I don't think you can associate a cabinet to another cabinet. If you make a part from a cabinet you need to save it as a cabinet if by itself, and as an assembly if combined with other cabinets.

I see now that you talked about making the fluted part from a cabinet seed.
Than you will have to save as an assembly .
