Problem with Removing a Geometry Cut in Part Editor

Post by JohnLashuay »

Here is a cabinet that I would like to remove the 4" notch in upper back of each of the panels. I have taken the part into the part editor and with the "geometry cut" removed the curve in the notch corners, but when I try to remove the rectangle notch, this error comes up:
"There was a problem removing this cut. If there's construction near this part, try removing it."

Any ideas if it is possible to remove only this notch without removing all the other geometry cuts as well?

Thanks!
-John

Part Editor cuts are removed last-to-first so if you made other cuts after the one you want to remove, you will have to remove them first.

I haven't looked at your cabinet, but if you have KD/RTA holes, dadoes, etc that overlap and were applied after the cut, you have to remove that construction before you can remove the cut.

Dan, the only cuts that are easily removed are the curves in the notch, which were the last cuts made via a fillet command. After removing these curved geometry cuts I can't remove the remaining rectangle. This doesn't make any sense.

Wow! I get the same message on all geometry cuts, even the fillets.

I was able to remove the notch by switching to back view on the part, but it also removed to back row of shelf holes. It looked really strange when I switched to back view also and when I returned to Main, I got a message like "Violates ideal tenon or dado" but it went ahead and removed the notch.

Something really screwy is going one with this cabinet. You are probably better off saving all of the geometry and recreating the cabinet from scratch. You can reapply the geometry you saved (minus the notch) to the new cabinet.

Also, why not use shelf holes as part of the adjustable shelf instead of creating that many holes in the Part Editor? Figure out how many holes below and above either the top or bottom shelf and apply them to that shelf only.

Here is what it looked like in back view:

Okay, here it is John.

I saved the geometry for each side like I said before, removed all Part Editor cuts from the entire cabinet, then reapplied the geometry (minus the notches and holes) to each end.

The comment I made earlier about shelf holes was incorrect. It looks like you had used "Create Edges" and that had drawn blue circles around all of the holes. Your Construction Settings already had what I suggested for the shelf holes.

I don't know why the notches couldn't be removed...maybe gremlins?

Dan,

Thanks for looking into this! I have since just created this cabinet with and without the notch.

I'll keep an eye out for those gremlins!

Yeah, they always popup at the most inopportune times.
