I have been trying to create more display objects and have been getting well and truely getting my teeth into the Display Part Editor and it seems like I have encountered another bug, oops I mean "program limitation". When you load a part it is by default in Camera view and you can move and rotate the part. If I change to Rotate or Move Part X & Y and hold the right mouse key and the Shift key the part should move. In my case it does not, even if I change back to Camera and reset the view I can no longer move the part.
That is just the way it works. When you load just one part in the Display Part Editor it becomes the "Anchor Point". (Use Camera under Operator and the left mouse button if you want to look at all sides.)
If you add a second part in the editor you can then use Rotate part and right click on the part and use the shift key right mouse button combo to rotate that part or Move X&Y. Your Anchor part will never move unless in Camera.
I gave some bad info above. You don't have to use the shift key in the Display Part Editor to move objects. Just set the operator and use the mouse buttons.
Hi Kerry. This is a bug. What I am saying is that a part that moved before in "Camera" does not move at all once you take it into another view and then back to "Camera" I picked this up when I had 2 parts on the screen and nothing moved at all once I have done this. Doing it again now I understand you can also select the part you want to move by typing in the number of the part. In this case it keeps on jumping back to part No. 1 and Part 0 can not be selected.
Select the second object by right clicking on it. When I type in the number it seems to revert back to number 0.
There is a bug in the Display Part Editor that could be affecting you. In the drop down menu where you can choose Camera, Move on XY, etc., there are multiple selections in the drop down. That is once you scroll through the first series of Camera, Move n XY, etc., there is a duplicate set and I believe another duplicate set. I'll call the first set of selections the primary set. If you're selection is not from the primary set, then it does appear to lock up and nothing functions.
This appears to have been fixed in the upcoming version.
In the past there was a simular problem of multiple selections in the drop down for appearance settings in the Display Part Editor but I haven't seen that in a while either.
I didn't think to ask Nick what version he is running. That could be the problem.
Dont worry guys I will be 55 by the time I do my Articles and retired by the time I get to sue anyone. I have been playing some more with the editor and am beginning to build up quite a nice library of objects. Great to hear the bugs are being resolved in V6, I find the problem inconsistent and may have to do with the original STL. I am getting loads of models off Google 3D Warehouse converting them to STLs in Turbo Cad where I can explode them into their component parts and then pulling them together with appropriate textures etc. in eCabs. Great stuff!! i am using the latest eCabs by the way. One other thing I noticed is that when I save the newly created item in my display part library it is not available for use immediately. I have to go in and out of a few libraries first and then it appears.
My understanding is that if you are moving your files into eCabinet Systems folders via Windows Explorer, then the eCabinet's may not refresh the directory list, so you would not see the files.
Version 6.0 has a "Refresh" icon that should take care of that.
Nope Dennis I am creating and saving the HSF in the Display Part editor, when go to my drawing to use my new object it is not in the directory i just saved it in, I have to go out fiddle a little while and come back again and hey presto! there it is.
Can't say that I've ever had that issue from the Display Part Editor. I save all the files in a directory created under the Import directory of eCabinet Systems. In the past, I may have had some problems that I kind of remember, but again that happened if I created the folder outside of eCabinet Systems. I believe that was also an initial issue with Vista, but I can't say for sure since I'm not on that OS.
