Moldings and measuring

When I am in the wall edit area I can highlight a cabinet and it will give me the dimensions away from the walls and ceilings. But when I put a molding on a cabinet it measures from the tip of the molding instead of the edge of the cabinet which makes it difficult to place cabinets. Is there a way to have it measure from the cabinet edge instead of the molding? I have tried turning the moldings off, but it still measures from them.

I think you might have to move the cabinet in free style, and place it where you want it.

So, as long as there is a molding on the cabinet, it will always measure from that molding. Hmmm, sounds strange. I don't really know why I never noticed it before. But it is making it a pain to do this job.

I guess we can put this on the wish list of things that would be nice to have in version 6.01. I guess it would be nice if you turned the moldings off, they would act like they weren't there. Hint hint

Leo, maybe try joining your cabinets together in the CE, then save as an assembly. When you have everything the way you like then you can add it to the room.... Just a thought.

Not a bad idea. I try to stay away from assemblies as much as I can though. The seem to have more issues than plain cabinets. Probably just as easy to take the moldings off for now.

Kerry, Is the only way to do that by placing them manually? This job is full of jogs, so if the program isn't going to place them I really don't want to. They never seem to want to flip the correct way for me. I have to flip them like 10 times before it falls right.

Are you talking about an elevation view? Mine always measures to the cabinet box with or without moldings.

Upload your job with the cabinets in question. I don't think eCabinets ever measures to a molding in custom layout.

There has to be another problem. Angled walls are sometimes the culprit.

I have trouble placing a tall cabinet next to an assembly using align to back. Use Free Style as Gary suggested.

So I took off the molding and it measured proper. Put it back on and it was screwy again. Something to do with the molding.

You are correct it is including the molding. I think it has something to do with the fact that it is an assembly. A tall cabinet with moldings behaves properly.

Maybe the eCab guys can shed some light on this.

For right now I would do as suggested above and place the assembly in the room without moldings then add the moldings when the assembly is in place.

After thinking about it I would bet this is proper for an assembly to take in the size of moldings. In an assembly you could place a part floating in space a foot to one side and that would become part of the overall size of the assembly.

to get past this you can place moldings after placing the assembly (but note that if you move the assembly it will start to behave as one or you could just use a base and an upper to make your tall cabinet and place them in the room as such.
