Bench top editor. additional controls ?

Hi guys
I am trying to do a bench top layout which has an assembly in it. The asembly has external actine points but no internals.
Is there any way to add your own active points?

I think one solution would be to create a big benchtop material in the CE and take it to the part editor.
But I was just wondering if I had missed some aditional controls
Any ideas apriciated

If you are trying to make a top that spans the open space I would place a cabinet to fill the space and give you nodes for the top and after the top is created delete the cabinet.
