downloading 3D files

Post by Al dedenus »

I seem to have lost all my sample HSFS.
New computer and loaded ecabs and restored my files but missing all my jobs and sample HSFS that I have.
They are definetly on my pen drive but can't seem to upload them on restore.
Guess no one has any idea how to find my job files as no replys to my previous post(no fingers pointing to you DAN ahem! or you KERRY ahem! )
but I have been loading them manually off my pen drive then saving them.
I have been downloading 3D files off the forum, all good until I try to download the SS rangehood on page 2
Keeps telling me that ecabs is not responding.
I also tried to upload it manually from my backup on my pendrive but when load it in display part editor to save pop up says it is an invalid file.
I really need this rangehood!! HELP!! :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:

Al,

This "not responding" is happening when? When you try to load it up in eCabSys? Where are you loading it? The one I see on page 2 is saved as an assembly (I assume this is for sure the one you are working with) http://www.thermwood.com/forums/viewtop ... =5&t=11172

It seems to load OK for me. Are you loading this in the cab editor or display part editor??

Here is that same range hood as a display object with a more uniform texture (removed the tiled look). You can re-load this into the Display Part Editor and re-texture it to your liking as well.

Hi Scott
I save it off the forum to downloads but its saving as an ESA file not an HSF file.
So if I go to display part editor and go to load it from there it doesn't show up on the list as it needs to be 'files of type STL/HSF' clicked on the drop down but no other file options.
If I try to load it directly from downloads using ecabs the homepage opens with a pop up that says invalid file.
The one that you altered I can save no problems as its an HSF
Would appreciate your input !

Al,

This particular item was saved as an assembly made up of display cubes. Since its an assembly {.esa}, it cannot be loaded into the display part editor or saved in the import area and loaded like a display object. It can only be loaded into the cab/assm editor or loaded into the custom layout as an assembly. I did an export selection of this assembly to get it saved off as an {.hsf}, then I was able to load it into the display part editor to texture it and save it off as a new display object. Hope this explains it well enough.

Ok I get what your saying but when I download it how do I save it to ecabs where I can access it.If I drop down the save as option I can get as far as programme files/thermwood/ecabinets but can't get any further.Otherwise I save it in my downloads but don't know how to move it from there. Thanks for your patience

Al,

To do an export selection for this assembly:
1.) Load the assembly into the cab/assm editor.
2.) Single-click on each of the 6 display cubes that make up the hood (so that each is selected in the green hatched pattern).
3.) Select {File} from the main eCabSys menu, then choose {Export Selection}.
4.) When the save dialog comes up, select where you want it to save and give it a name, then select save.

Now this .hsf can be loaded into the display part editor and textured etc. This procedure can also be done in the custom layout by selecting item(s) and choosing the export selection option.
