when you join 2 or more cabinets into an assembly, is there a way that the parts from one cabinet will cut the joinery on the adjoining parts on the second cabinet such as blind dado or RTA fasterner? i'm trying to afix a shelf on the outside of a cabinet and i can't figure out the right strategy to use.
In construction settings under the add shelf settings tab click on the fixed shelf radio button.
Now under construction. You can select KD/RTA Fastener thru or Lock Dado thru for the Parts that are listed.
Hope this helps.
Create a fixed shelf with the joinery you want on the outside of the box.
Use insets to take the shelf outside the box and touching the side you want the joinery on. Use a negative inset (I used 1") so you still have a shelf with joinery
Turn the shelf into a Phantom Part so it will create the joinery but not cut the part
thanks for the explanation. I have tried adding an adjustable shelf to the outside of the cabinet and the joinery doesn't apply nor have I found a way to make the shelves come to the same level inside and out. see picture here:
its too bad that you can't save individual furniture components as an assembly (example a left gable with shelves) and attach it to a cabinet and the construction would apply to both. It would save so much time when doing things like closet components with shared gables.
Try building your cabinet with only partitions, (no left and right ends) The partitions can become the ends and will let you place shelves with different joinery on each side.
You may need to use some Phantom Parts.
