Issue with Constraints and Edgebanding

Post by Nat Wheatley »

When I've set up constraints on a part, I've always deducted edgebanding thickness, when applicable, to get the correct results. I've done that, on the pull holes, on the top drawer front, of the attached cabinet , but when I take the drawer front into PE, or nest it, the pull holes are located the thickness of the edgebanding too close to the edge that they're constrained to.

It's entirely possible that I'm missing something, but I do think that something is off.

Nat,

I think the best way to constrain the handle holes is to the center of the drawer front. The first hole constraint would be W/2-1.5". The second hole would be 3" from the first. This is for a 3" handle. That should eliminate the edgebanding.

If I've misunderstood your problem, please set me straight.

David,

True, but all my libraries are set up in the way that I've described, and I'd rather not have to rework all the cabinets.

in V5, to constrain each hole from the side of the drawer front, I'd need to use the equation (((W - (2 x EB thickness))/2)- half of pull width)

In V6 I no longer need to include edgebanding thickess in the equation: ((W/2)-half of pull width)

Has this changed?

Nat,

Using the 'W' in version 5 or version 6 should yield the same results every time, even if the thickness was not taken into account for Version 5. So Center is center still.

I have not verified this to be the case yet. If you find that I am wrong, I will do detailed nesting to figure this out by testing different EB thicknesses.

If you are still having issue, by all means, let us know and I will do additional testing to figure this out.

In V5, in the CM, I needed to factor in EB thickness to get my constraints to work correctly. I'm not clear on why, perhaps there was a bug there. In V6 it appears there's no longer the need to do this.
