moving installed cabinets

Post by KyleHepp »

In ecabinetsystemsmadeeasy, I cannot for the life of me find how to MOVE a cabinet, once I have placed it in the room. I've created (a couple) rooms, set some of the cabinets into proximity of where they go, and am now trying to simply nudge the boxes into place. I have tried everything I can think of, and am becoming rather frustrated at this point.
I now have four cabinet jobs on standby, and need to get the basics hammered out here so I can get some materials orders placed and some work underway.
Any help at this unreasonable hour will be graciously appreciated!

OK, I just discovered that by selecting the item in either \"detail room\" or \"edit wall\" view I can select a cabinet, then hold shift while right clicking and dragging right or left.

How would you move the cabinet up or down, in the event that you need to do so?

Kyle, right click and set move increment, objects to the amount you need to move then select your cabinet then shift and arrows to move.

You must right click the wall with the cabinet selected and ASSOCIATE the cabinet to the wall. Then you can double click the wall and go to an elevation view. Here you can see your cabinet and move it up and down with the arrows the same way as long as it is Associated to the wall.

Kyle,

You must associate everything to a wall, if you want to adjust height.

A very useful hint from one of the gurus on this forum:

Adjusting the height works especially well for light fixtures, to highlight different things in your room renderings. Since they will go right through installed equipment such as cabinets, you can move the smaller light fixtures into a cabinet opening, hide the lights, and it will look as if the inside of the cabinet has lights!

In the attachment, a quick test I ran, the main difference between the left vs. the right cabinet is the number of lights inside each one: I placed 3 lights in the one on the left, and only one in the one on the right. And the differences show.

Moving Cabinets

Rather than haphazardly dropping a cabinet into a room, ensure that the cabinet snaps to the wall that you are placing it on.

Then, move to the elevation view of that wall, select (double-click) the cabinet, then review the values in the \"Position\" elements on the leftside of the screen. Those elements represent the position from the floor to the bottom of the cabinet, the top of the wall to the top of the cabinet and the left and right distances from the left and right edges of the cabinet. Place your cursor in one of the positional elements, replace the current value with the desired value, then press the \"Enter\" key. The cabinet will move to that location.

By using this method you can position a cabinet anywhere along the wall and can be further benefitted by the snap feature when placing adjoining cabinets.

The \"Move Increment\" method works well to move a single cabinet or multiple cabinets a known distance from its placed position.

On a similar note you can find the distance between two cabinets in a plan view by selecting (double-clicking) two cabinets. A dimension line will be displayed to illustrate the distance between the two. You could then use the \"Move Increment\" method to close the gap between the two.

On a similar note during item placement...

Once you have selected the cabinet from your directory the cabinet to be placed will have a green boundry box and an arrow (sort of) pointing in the direction of the front of the cabinet.

While you have the cabinet to be placed right click and find the \"Modify Angle\" or \"Lock Angle\" and select one of these. Doing this will allow you to Modify the cabinet angle to place the cabinet, or locking the cabinet angle will not permit the cabinet to rotate from its current orientation.

This feature is great for placing a line of cabinets in the form of a peninsula at a 45 deg angle from an existing wall.
